The Fullcircle Story
How It All Began
Once upon a time, an environmentally-minded group noticed that hundreds of good solid wood doors were ending up in landfills. They were sad and decided to rescue the doors.
The Plot Thickens
Because area landfills are filling up with construction and demolition waste* the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources provided partial funding for Madison Environmental Group to find an innovative solution that would divert doors from landfills and satisfy the market for eco-friendly furniture.
In January, 2006, 122 commercial doors were salvaged during the deconstruction of a Madison hospital. Prototype furniture was designed and built from these doors, and community feedback guided the design of two lines of furniture, one classic and one contemporary. The furniture is limited edition, since each salvaged group of doors is unique.
A Happy Ending
Now the group is glad. They eat lunch together on a beautiful Fullcircle table at their office in downtown Madison and meet at their Fullcircle conference table. And they’re happy because now you too can rescue doors from the landfill when you buy or build Fullcircle Furniture.
*Construction and demolition waste composes approximately 46% of the waste stream in Dane County, Wisconsin, home of Fullcircle.
